Arsene Wenger issued the grim news that Arsenal will be without Gael Clichy, Phileppe Senderos & Abou Diaby for at least the first six weeks of the season.

The news comes as defensive worries worsen with the departure (and inevitable departure) of Sol Campbell & Ashley Cole.

However, Wenger has found the silver lining as the players were due to be out longer than this latest new suggests.

Diaby’s injury is the most severe, but Wenger is optomistic.

“In fact the news is quite good for Diaby, Clichy and Senderos,’ Wenger said. ‘But the first [of these] players will be back in October, not before.”

“He is in front of what we expected for him,” said Wenger. “But it is November at the earliest for him. he added.

Wenger also gave news on Freddie Ljungberg, but there’s not much to worry about as he will be back within the first couple of games of the new season.

“Ljungberg is doing well,” said Wenger. “He may not be there for the first game of the season but [he will be there] early around the start.”
