Transfer expert tells Arsenal to target 121-game Premier League ‘keeper as Alex Runarsson replacement

|

Arsenal should target Brighton and Hove Albion’s Mat Ryan as a potential replacement for Alex Runarsson, who could be leaving the club this month, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.

The transfer expert has claimed that Mikel Arteta is open to letting the Iceland international leave the club this month after figuring out that Runarsson isn’t up to the job.

He’s also gone on to say that letting Emiliano Martinez leave the club was a mistake and that the club are big fans of David Raya.

Should Arsenal sign Mat Ryan as a replacement for Alex Runarsson?

Yes

No

With every passing week, it becomes ever clearer that letting Martinez leave the club and not replacing him with an adequate number two was a big mistake by the Reds. How did they expect to replace the Argentine with a player, who came with major red flags, for just £1.5m?

The summer transfer window was going swimmingly with the additions of Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey, who have both made instant impacts. However, I feel the signing for the former Ligue 1 player was a major blotch on proceedings. The low-balling that went on is nigh-on unforgivable and shows that the hierarchy at the Emirates Stadium aren’t doing their jobs properly.

Ryan could be a great addition to the squad given his impact since Brighton were promoted to the top-flight a few seasons back. He’s kept 27 clean sheets in his 121 league games and making 354 saves in a great spell for the Seasiders.

You can’t imagine that the board at the club would make the same mistake twice. If you want to replace a stunning ‘keeper in Martinez, you have to have an adequate replacement, who can perform at a similar level.

In other news, an Arsenal target is looking to move to the Premier League.
