This Premier League rule change has provided a boost for Mikel Arteta – Opinion

|

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their bid to turn around their shocking run of form in the Premier League.

The league announced that clubs can now announce nine substitutions on the bench as opposed to the normal seven.

With the Gunners’ options on the bench for Wednesday’s draw with Southampton looking far too weak in forward areas, the boost in numbers could give ample opportunity to the likes of Reiss Nelson and Folarin Balogun, who may well be in contention to grab the two spots on the bench.

Can Arsenal beat Everton?

Yes

No

Mikel Arteta’s options off the bench have looked weak in recent games with far too many defensive options.

In the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock were the two most offensive players available to the Spaniard if he wanted to turn the game around. It didn’t improve much in this week’s draw with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side with Willian and Alexandre Lacazette, both in poor form, the only options available out of the seven.

If anything Mikel Arteta needs better options off the bench and young guns could be the way forward if he wants to effect change in Saturday’s game against Everton. Nelson and Balogun have been in great form in the Europa League this season, scoring and assisting plenty of goals. However, the latter has missed out due to restrained numbers allowed to be named.

That’s all set to change in this moment in time. Arsenal are now allowed to name nine players to be substitutes this weekend, and with that opening up options for the former Manchester City coach, there are sure to be a place for one or two youngsters, who have been daring to break through this season.

In other news, Arsenal are interested in signing this Liga NOS youngster.
