Olivier Giroud didn’t do his chances of forcing his way back into Arsene Wenger’s starting XI after scoring twice with as many (his first) touches against Sunderland on Saturday.

Without a start, for various reasons, this season it had been questioned if he and Alexis Sanchez can play in the same side. If they do if the Chilean is as beneficial to Arsenal, having impressed in a central role this season, with Giroud playing alongside him?

Giroud has been quoted by Sky Sports as saying he’s waiting for his chance to come from Wenger and is sure they’ll do well as a pair if given that chance, but Arsenal doing well as a team is more important than his own personal involvement.

‘I’m just concentrating on what I have to do on the pitch. My time will come. [Me and Sanchez] can play together, we can play up front, or on our own. The team is doing very well, from the start of the season.’

After his two-goals in five-minutes from the bench, his first goals of the season for Arsenal, which could earn him a place from the off against Tottenham in the North London derby at the weekend, the French international added.

‘I’m happy as long as we win. We have a very good team cohesion. I’m not questioning myself too much about my place. I’m focused on the team.’

Can and will Giroud and Sanchez play (effectively) in the same side?
