Reports have appeared in the press saying that Wojciech Szczesny wants to be our captain…however this has now been denied.

The Daily Mirror seems to be the main source for this, and claim the 21 year old goalkeeper said.

‘I feel that when I say something, everyone listens to me. More so on the field than in the dressing room, but that’s more important, I think. I want to be captain of the team. I feel I am able to take on that responsibility.’

Quotes from Sky Sports.

However, today on arsenal.com they carry a clarification from the player after he resorted to using Twitter to correct what he claims are misleading stories in the press.

‘I got annoyed with a few things about myself in the media recently so I’m gonna set the record straight. I never said I deserve the Arsenal armband. I said that I would love to one day take the responsibility of being an Arsenal skipper.’

He added that Van Persie was doing a great job as captain and that he fully deserved to keep it.

So there we go, storm in a teacup and a player with ambition. Nothing wrong with that is there.

Talking of ambition, he also Twittered.

‘Please continue the ‘Szczesny to Barcelona’ rumours. Makes me laugh every time I read it!’
