Late yesterday evening it was being reported that Santi Cazorla himself and Arsenal had accepted the fact that there would be no return to action this season.

The Mirror were one of a few to report that the 32 year old was now focused on returning to full fitness in readiness for pre season training as opposed to returning this season given ongoing issues with his ankle problem.

With several operations and a skin graft from his arm to try and aide the problem, months on it continues, as does his return to full fitness.

With specialists now hoping the problem has been solved, such has been his time out that returning even late this season is now deemed to be too much of a push and the concern is obviously that if he pushes too hard and quickly he could breakdown again.

He has of course been out far longer than originally anticipated given he suffered the issue back in the Champions League tie against Ludogorets, and initial assessments had him back in contention for us or at least on the verge of coming back into contention already but that’s clearly not the case.

The report also states that the option we held on him has been enacted and with him contracted up until the summer of 2018 the club have no concerns about a departure despite the media speculation of interest in him from abroad.
