Rob Is Holding His Own

Arsenal signed young centre back, Rob Holding from Bolton last week for what, in this current transfer climate, was a ludicrously low £2.5M.

Rob played his first game for the Gunners last night (and was the only player to play the entire match) in a makeshift defence and apparently impressed most people (I didn`t watch the game I was busy doing that sleeping thing). Arsene Wenger, his team mates and Rob himself were all please with his performance.

Le Boss said “‘I thought he did very well, I must say he looked composed, mastered the pressure well, wasn’t nervous and he reads the game very well.”
‘I think it’s very interesting to see that such a young boy like him can cope with a game like that.’

It will be interesting to see if Wenger has any plans to use him in the early season or not.

Holding played in the centre of defence with Calum Chambers for the England team as they won the Toulon tournament this summer and he impressed his new team mate.

Chambers noted “I thought he was brilliant. He’s a great player both defensively and on the ball. He’s got composure, he’s great to play alongside.”

Rob himself feels that he did “alright” and settled into the game well. “It’s massive. If you can get a good couple of wins in early you get that momentum, so that when you come to that first game of the season, against Liverpool at home, hopefully we can hit the ground running. Hopefully that will be the case.”

“I was a bit nervous coming into it. I was bound to be, but once I was on the pitch and warming up the jitters go and you are OK then. Your stomach settles and you feel good.”

All sounds very promising.
