Report: Arsenal targeting move for £5.4m-rated Liga NOS star

|

Arsenal are targeting a move for Sporting CP striker Tiago Tomas in the summer transfer window, according to youth coach Joao Vargas who told Radio Renascenca.

The Sun are claiming that the young Portuguese forward is due to join the Gunners for a fee of £20m at the end of the season.

Technical director Edu has been in contact with Sporting Lisbon director of football Hugo Viana over a deal for the £5.4m-rated 18-year-old.

Do Arsenal need to sign another young striker?

Yes

No

Tomas has enjoyed a standout season with Benfica’s Lison rivals featuring in all 20 Liga NOS with the club sitting top of the table and 10 points clear in the hunt for their first league title in two decades.

He’s enjoyed a brilliant campaign with the outfit, scoring five goals and assisting a further five whilst featuring in 27 games across all competitions.

However, do the north London giants really need another young forward at the club? The position is stacked and further additions would just further complicate Mikel Arteta’s job in developing the forwards already with the side.

The likes of Tyreece John-Jules, Folarin Balogun, Eddie Nketiah and even Gabriel Martinelli to an extent, can play in the number nine position. And with the Brazilian having been called the ‘talent of the century’ by none other than Jurgen Klopp, it would be baffling to target a player who has just starting to find his feet in senior football.

There needs to be priorities at the club with regards to who is being targeted. Signing young strikers really isn’t a necessity and with funds already low, you feel it would be a huge waste of money.

In other news, the club are interested in signing an England under-20 World Cup winner.
