Report: Arsenal join Chelsea and Juventus in offering contract to Serie A star

|

Arsenal have submitted an offer for AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, whose contract expires at the end of this season, according to Sky Italy.

However, the Gunners aren’t the only side to submit a contract offer for the Turkey international with Chelsea and Juventus also having done so.

The midfielder has reached a dead-end in negotiations with Milan insisting on only offering the player €4m per season, whilst he’s demanding €5m per year.

Should Arsenal sign Calhanoglu?

Yes

No

Arsenal’s search for another midfielder is sure to carry on in the summer transfer window despite the £45m acquisition of Thomas Partey last October.

The Ghanaian has been in great form since his move from Atletico Madrid as has Granit Xhaka since the 3-1 victory over Chelsea back in December 2020. However, the depth beyond the two ace’s proves non-existent with Mohamed Elneny and Dani Ceballos failing to impress.

With the Spain international only here on a season-long loan deal, you’d imagine the club would let him return to parent club Real Madrid given the standard of his performances. It would open up a slot in midfield and Calhanoglu would be a perfect fit for Mikel Arteta’s men.

The 27-year-old possesses a range of passing which can help the Gunners through the thirds of the pitch, however, also has a keen eye for goal having struck 10 times in Serie A this campaign.

However, his most impressive trait is his set piece delivery with the Turk proving to be a reliable outlet from dead-ball situations.

Arsenal’s search for a midfielder takes a turn to Italy this week. However, in Calhangolu the club have a player who has the European experience and who would be a free signing, a perfect blend for a club like the Gunners.
