Report: Arsenal interested in signing £9m-rated former Premier League defender

|

Arsenal are interested in former Aston Villa defender and Olympique Marseille man Jordan Amavi, according to L’Equipe (via The Sun).

It’s being claimed that the Gunners are targeting a move in the summer window when the ace’s contract with the £9m-rated Ligue 1 star runs out. However, they aren’t the only club in for the player with Crystal Palace and Napoli also said to interested.

The Gunners were left short in defence after Sead Kolasinac’s departure to Schalke left Kieran Tierney as the only out-and-out left-back.

Should Arsenal have sacked Mikel Arteta and hired Nuno Espirito Santo?

Yes

No

Arsenal’s planning in letting Kolasinac leave the club, only to not have a suitable back-up proves to be one of the more baffling moves of this transfer window. Moving forward, Cedric Soares has shown he may have the ability to make a difference in the short-term on the left during the side’s win over Southampton. However, his struggles during the first-half still raise questions over his long-term suitability.

Then there are the health issues concerning Kieran Tierney, who has been in and out of the first XI in recent weeks, raising questions over his long-term fitness. The Scotsman missed the clashes against Crystal Palace and Southampton (FA Cup) thanks to injury with Arsenal showing struggles on the left side of their defence in his absence.

Amavi could be a perfect fit for Mikel Arteta’s side given how similar he proves to be to Tierney in an attacking sense. The Frenchman has completed 1.1 dribbles and been fouled 1.4 times per league game in the French top-flight. He has also notched up a goal in a show of his attacking ability.

A left-back seems to be a crucial target in the summer transfer window. The decision to let the Bosnian leave the club on loan seems stranger and stranger by the day especially as Arsenal show weaknesses on the left.

In other news, Tony Adams has listed these two aces as future Arsenal captains.
