Report: Arsenal interested in £35.7m ace who could’ve joined back in January 2019

|

Arsenal are said to be interested in Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku, according to Sport Bild.

It is being said by the German publication that the Bundesliga outfit rate the Frenchman at €40m (roughly £35.7m).

Should Arsenal sign Nkunku?

Yes

No

The Gunners were in for the midfielder when he was at Paris Saint Germain and reportedly opened talks over a loan move.

A move for the 22-year-old wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world especially when you take into account how poor Arsenal are at creating chances at this moment in time. The Gunners are currently on a run of over six hours without a goal from open play, showing their struggles in the final third.

When compared to some of Mikel Arteta’s midfielders, Nkunku stands out like a sole star in the night sky. No Gunners player averages more key passes per Premier League game than Nkunku, who averages 2.9 in the German top-flight.

He also proves to be a menace to opposing defences and has been fouled over two times per league game so far this season. With Nicolas Pepe being the only out and out dribbler in the squad, adding Nkunku into the fold wouldn’t be a bad idea.

However, it seems as though Arteta is hell-bent on having his attacking players track back and help the team out defensively, a concept not lost on the former PSG man, who averages 1.4 fouls per league game.

Nkunku has all the attributes that Arteta asks of and more, making him a perfect signing. And at the young age of 22, he can still be moulded into the player the Spaniard sees fit with his best years still ahead of him.

In other news, Ian Wright hit out at Alexandre Lacazette for his recent performance against Aston Villa.
