Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been previewing this weekend’s derby against Tottenham Hotspur and he knows how important it is for the fans that we finish above them.

Into his eighth season at the Emirates Stadium, Ramsey knows the status of the Spurs derby as well as anybody in the squad, and he was of course on the scoresheet last time we made the trip to White Hart Lane and it did help us to finish above them for the 21st season in a row.

Speaking to the Official Site as we go into this weekend’s clash, Ramsey explained.

‘Of course finishing above them matters. It has been many years since that happened and we didn`t want it to happen last season. It was important for us to finish above them and hopefully we can keep that the same way this season. They have been a tough challenge in the past couple of seasons. It is a derby game so we know what we are up against and what to expect. They are unbeaten in the league so far this season and it is going to be up to us to try and break them down. We are at home and I`m sure going into that game we will be full of confidence we can get a win.’

Making his return from injury in the midweek comeback against Ludogorets in the Champions League, it was his first start and now he’s hoping for 90 minutes more on Sunday.

‘It was great for me to be out there. I`ve been out injured for a couple of months now and it was nice to be back out there starting again and getting 70 odd minutes. That will put me in good shape now going into the weekend and hopefully I can stay fit.’

Speaking a bit more about the midweek tie, Ramsey was on the bench by the time Mesut Ozil found the net, and Ramsey admitted all he could think was ‘shoot’ as Ozil worked himself round the keeper, and then the two defenders.

‘I was just saying, ‘Shoot, shoot!’ so many times but he kept faking. Mesut is a quality player and it was a great finish. He was so calm in that situation and it topped off a great evening for us. I`m sure a lot of players would have shot first time but he made a couple of their players look a bit silly, sliding on the floor, but it was a great finish and we are just delighted to come away with the win in the end.’

‘This team has been together for a while now with a couple of more additions – we have brought in some really good quality as well. We know what we are all about. We have been on a good run now for a long period of time now. At the back end of last season, we finished really strongly and we`ve carried that on into this season. The team is full of confidence at the moment.’
