Goalkeeper Petr Cech has said that Arsenal simply have to pick themselves up ahead of the Manchester City clash this weekend following the defeat to Everton on Tuesday evening.

Making the trip to Goodison Park and losing the game two one on the evening, goalkeeper Cech was largely on board with the thoughts of manager Arsene Wenger in terms of the control we had and then how we beat ourselves by stepping off the pace and giving Ronald Koeman’s side some hope.

He did however know that with the games we’ve played lately and how well we have been doing, it should only be considered a blip and we look to get back to winning ways at the weekend when we face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Speaking to the Official Site in his own post game press conference following the defeat, Cech explained that whilst everyone was disappointed the only thing they can do is bounce back – of course given the hype that will surround City there is no better match for us.

‘Well, I thought that when we went 1-0 up, we had the game under control. Then unfortunately for us they managed to equalise right before half-time and that obviously gave them a big boost of confidence because towards the end of the first half it looked like we had complete control of the game and it changed. Second half they came out and they were confident, they played better, they had some counter-attacks and we couldn`t find the openings, we couldn`t find the big chances to score the second. At the end we lose from a corner and it can always happen but it`s disappointing – once you have everybody in the box, you should do better.’

With plenty of use of the word ‘physical’ by Wenger in his post game press conference, Cech was asked if Arsenal feel they can be bullied by teams when they put that kind of fight into things.

He disagreed and felt on balance we could feel unlucky to not have taken another one or two of our chances, whilst they took two of theirs.

‘No. But we played well with the ball and we didn`t give them chances. Second half, obviously with the goal they came back into the game and in the Premier League it`s very difficult. You can`t control games for 90 minutes, there will be moments where the opponents will show their quality. Today, although they were not dangerous for most of the game, they found two goals and in the end you go home with a defeat. But you have to pick yourself up. There is a big period coming up now with the games coming thick and fast and there is no time to dwell on the defeat. You have to move on and get ready for the next one.’

With Wenger giving his thoughts on the corner, Cech was also asked about that moment and whether or not it was debatable as they netted the winner.

‘I don`t know. As soon as the ball goes and the referee shows a corner, you get ready for the corner and you try to make sure that you defend it well. Obviously this time they came on top of us and they found the winner, but at the end, we had the two chances at the end where I thought we were going to equalise and unfortunately, it wasn`t to be.’

So to Manchester City.

‘Sometimes I think it is best if after a big game you play another big game. You have opportunities to win, it`s a kind of a six-pointer – it`s probably a perfect game for us.’
