Lucas Perez’s agent has claimed his client wants to leave Arsenal this summer owing to a lack of game time in 2016/17.

The 28 year old moved to the Emirates at the end of August for a reported £17.1million from Spanish club Deportivo but across the whole campaign and all competitions he only made nine starting appearances with a further 12 substitute showings. In those games he scored seven times so in reality it’s not a bad goal return given the opportunities he had.

With forward line competition though and manager Arsene Wenger’s choices for the frontline, picking up a thigh injury in March certainly didn’t help Perez’s chances but it’s claimed our fifth most expensive player in history has become frustrated at not getting a proper crack at the Premier League itself and has instructed his agent, Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle, to get him a move.

Speaking to Sky Sports he explained.

‘The idea is to be able to play for another club. We want to leave and Arsenal already know. Do you know anyone who is happy but has no opportunities?’

Even if understandable, I’ll never understand why agents think it’s bright to run to the media with this. If Arsenal already know you’ve done your job so keep schtum.

Speaking in May, Arsene Wenger admitted he felt sorry for the player.

‘If I am the manager I would love to keep him but we have to sit down and see if he has a realistic chance to play. He’s a top-quality striker but I couldn’t give him the games he wants and deserves, I confess that. I feel a bit sorry for him.’

Lovelle admitted a period away on loan would be agreeable so if Wenger wants to keep him maybe the best option is a six month loan away for regular game time, get him in good form then give him a real crack in the second half of next year.
