With ongoing speculation about the future of German international Mesut Ozil, the player has now spoken about the situation and confirmed that he’s already shown the club his willingness to commit to a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, but he wants some clarification on the future of manager Arsene Wenger first.

With his deal up in 2018 it’s long been known that Arsenal have been looking to tie down the future of the 28 year old former Real Madrid player as we’ve covered before on here, and whilst he’s extremely clear that he’s happy at the club and is willing to extend, the player wants to know what will happen with the managerial seat before he signs up.

Wenger is out of contract come the end of the season obviously.

Speaking to German outlet Kicker he explained.

‘I feel very, very well at Arsenal and have shown my willingness to extend against the club. The fans want me to stay, now it’s just the club.’

He also quickly rubbished that the delay was owing to the financial uplift of the new deal, saying.

‘The club knows I am here mainly because of Arsene Wenger, who has brought me the trust I enjoy. The club also knows that I want to be clear about what the coach is doing.’

In the interview he went on to dismiss Thierry Henry’s suggestion that he and Alexis Sanchez were holding the club ‘hostage’ over wage demands, pointing out that he and the club know exactly what the issue is – the future and Wenger – and not money.

As the report points out, Wenger himself has made it clear both players won’t be sold even if extensions are ultimately and finally rejected.

With differences of opinion on Wenger, some will no doubt more side with Henry’s summation of things here and not Ozil’s words but if he just wants some clarity on the future he only has to wait a few months afterall.
