Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has donate the money he received for helping Germany become champions of the world to fund operations for 23 sick children in Brazil.

It had been reported that Ozil had donated the money to children in the devastated region of Gaza, however Mesut cleared up the mistake instead telling that ill children in Brazil will benefit from his generosity.

Taking to Facebook he said,

Dear fans,
prior to the ‪#‎WorldCup‬ I supported the surgery of eleven sick children. since the victory of the #WorldCup is not only due to eleven players but to our whole team, I will now raise the number to 23. this is my personal thank-you for the hospitality of the people of Brazil.

FIFA, the Brazilian government and the World Cup tournament had been widely criticised by the people of the country as communities and cities all around the country struggle with financial difficulty as the government spent the highest amount of money in world cup history in hosting the tournament.

Hopefully other players will follow suit.
