Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was reportedly a transfer target of rivals Liverpool when the transfer window opened next week.

It was claimed by the Guardian that Liverpool were set to make a move for the 23 year old in January and could give him the regular starting spot at Anfield he’s not always managed to secure at Arsenal.

With 18 months left on his contract we need Oxlade-Chamberlain to sign a new deal – Arsene Wenger’s made it clear he wants this but it was of course claimed the Ox knew nothing about any talks claimed – soon or that risk of losing him on a free in 2018 becomes a reality.

Arsenal haven’t had to play down such talks on this occasion as Jurgen Klopp has done this himself on behalf of Liverpool – he’s said these rumours we nonsense.

Speaking ahead of his sides game with Manchester City the Liverpool boss was quoted by Sky Sports as saying.

‘Usually I don’t say anything about transfer rumours, but I can make an exception. This is nonsense. It’s really not interesting what I think about this. [The media] are already on a path so do with it what you want but from our side – nothing else to say about it.’

Well, we can at least say the Ox isn’t going to Anfield in January then!
