Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, linked with London rivals Chelsea several times, could see his previous at Barcelona with Pep Guardiola lead to a Manchester City move?

Last week Arsene Wenger insisted Alexis wanted to stay at Arsenal, not merely until the end of his exiting contract in 2018, beyond, but it would come down to the Chilean’s agent being able to agree a deal.

Wenger was quoted from a news conference by the BBC.

‘I believe that he wants to stay at the club and it is about doing a deal with his agent. The players have to see if they’re happy and find an agreement. Finances are also involved in that.’

However, it’s now been claimed that Man City are ‘leading the race’ to sign him this summer, according to Chilean outlet Cooperativa, via the Daily Mirror.

Alexis, he said as much himself, wants to stay in London but that hasn’t prevented these reports from surfacing a switch to Manchester appeals. His previous positive relationship with Guardiola at Barcelona, the club he left due to a lack of playing time under the Spaniard, will see the 28 year old head to the Etihad Stadium in a £50m deal…

Who knows what will happen with Alexis? Until we know exactly what will happen with his contract situation speculation will rumble on. But, should it be made clear a new contract isn’t going to be signed during the summer months, as much as it’s not about the money, with Arsenal against selling to a Premier League club, could such an offer be turned down?

Then again would the risk of losing him on a free transfer in 2018, as opposed to selling to a rival club, be worth MORE to the Gunners in the long run?
