One minute Alexandre Lacazette will leave Lyon – seemingly joining Arsenal as Atletico Madrid isn’t an option – but this stance quickly changes and Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas now expects him to stay.

He’s flip flopped around more than a fish out of water, in the past week or so alone. Now Aulas, previously saying Arsenal would have to meet the Lyon asking price in order for him to leave before saying a replacement would be needed at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

Aulas has now suggested that replacement isn’t going to join Lyon this month so Arsenal’s hopes of signing Lacazette will have to wait until January?

He told Canal Plus, via Sky Sports: ‘I do not think that Alexandre Lacazette will leave this summer.’

The potential of Olivier Giroud leaving Arsenal for Lyon, part of this deal or independently has been mooted, but Aulas, whilst again admitting an interest in the Gunners forward, insists talks haven’t advanced beyond a liking for the French international.

‘I do not have anything to say about Olivier Giroud. We’re interested. Things haven’t advanced,’ added Aulas.

Should Lacazette remain in France until the January transfer window it could result in his proposed Atletico Madrid switch being resurrected, previously curtailed owing to the fact the La Liga side are banned from any transfers until the New Year.

Asked about this possibility Aulas merely said: ‘It’s possible.’
