How many teams can go a goal down at Stamford Bridge in an important league match a come back to win?
Well put it this way, in the last five years only two teams have managed it, Arsenal, and well, Arsenal. It takes tremendous character to accomplish it, especially when you have lost your last two games and are in danger of losing touch with the league’s top sides completely.
However our boys did just that yesterday, and pulled off an unlikely win for a very important three points. But that is now over, we have to look to our next league game against Wigan, and we have to approach it with the same mindset as we did against Chelsea.
The impressive victory (and incredible performance) against Manchester United should serve as a timely reminder that a single win against one of the the league’s top teams doesn’t mean jack shit if you play like rank amateurs in your following two games.
After the win yesterday Arsene Wenger said ‘I have an intelligent team, a talented one, but we want to come back with humility and work hard. We have learned that we need that kind of focus in every game no matter who you play.’ and he’s bang right, but it’s not the manager who needs to know that, it’s every last one of our players.
I had such fun yesterday seeing the Gunners pull that performance from the hat, but I will be far more impressed if we can follow it up with similar performances against Wigan and Boro.
