‘Not enough consistency’: Michael Thomas lashes out at ‘quality’ ace who signed in 2014

|

Michael Thomas has voiced his frustration over the inconsistent form of Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil during the German’s six-year stay at the Emirates Stadium.

The Germany international’s stay at the club is due to come to an acrimonious end sooner rather than later with reports claiming the ace is in talks with various clubs over a transfer away.

Speaking to Caught Offside, the Arsenal legend has claimed that whilst he enjoyed a great partnership with Alexis Sanchez, it only ‘blossomed at times’.

Thomas said: “Amazing vision and quality but not enough consistency to go with these attributes. His partnership with (Alexis) Sanchez could have been so much more, but blossomed at times.” (via Caughtoffside)

Has Mesut Ozil been a success or failure at Arsenal?

Success

Failure

It’s incredibly harsh to be criticising the playmaker when so many around him aren’t of sufficient quality. Thomas himself even admitted that the former La Liga star enjoyed a blossoming relationship with his former teammate Sanchez.

And looking back over the course of Ozil’s career, mainly at Real Madrid, Ozil has always performed to a high level when playing alongside players of the same ability. Cristiano Ronaldo famously said that the number 10 made him a better player as he lauded his quality.

Of course, there were times where the attacking midfielder could’ve performed far better. But, on a whole, if you have the likes of Olivier Giroud upfront, as opposed to Ronaldo, your statistical output will look far worse than it should.

Winning four FA Cup in six seasons at the club most definitely counts as success. Ozil has been a sensational signing for the club, and if there should be an feelings of saddness, it should be at the fact the ace never had a team built around himself.

In other news, Arsenal are looking to offload a player they signed in last summer’s transfer window.
