After yesterday’s defeat I thought it only right that I should do my upmost to raise the mood amongst Gooners all over the world.

It worked with some, it angered some while others just disagreed, one of them being Vital Arsenal member Professor calculus.

I wont go into any detail, I’ll just let you read what he has to say on the subject:

I admire your (Simmonett’s) good intentions but I have to say that the future is not bright, the future doesn’t even exist. What does exist is an Arsenal team that haven’t properly scored since the Carling Cup and have had the disrespect to bang on about next season even though this season is far from over, and even though fourth spot is far from ours.

If this team carry on as usual, against Newcastle we may as well just turn up, kick off, let them take a speculative shot, watch it go in, blow final whistle seconds later, then go home with nothing. It will hurt, but not as much as playing for 90 mins, dominating the game, not scoring, then getting sucker punched yet again. We’re all familiar with the pattern now right? Not this Arsenal side though.

I know I keep going on about it but I can’t stress it enough – the future doesn’t exist, next season means nothing – some fans have decided to be selective when talking about the future, they always assume new players will come in and all will be good, well key players could leave and new crap players could be signed. I’m just pointing out that trying to use speculations of the future as a basis for feeling positive or negative is pointless, I think Arsenal deserve to be judged here and now where they lost to West Ham for f**k sake.

I personally don’t think yesterday’s performance was good at all, it was the same as every other frustrating performance this season, a good performance would have been to address the issues that have destroyed our season NOT repeat the problems from the very first game of the season.

I want to remain optimistic but realistically there is nothing to suggest this team has got what it takes to stay in the top four let alone step up to the next level next season.

Another thing which pisses me off is that right now would be a good time to practice for next season, fair enough we aren’t going to win anything, but go out and prove that the team will be the one to look out for next campaign, yet again there is no evidence that they are putting their words into actions.

Having said all that, I think Arsenal will beat Newcastle, but we lost to West Ham…WEST HAM! I don’t think this current Arsenal side deserves the benefit of the doubt, a team with their ability that can’t score and have consistently lost to much inferior sides (PSV being the worst), deserves scepticism until they prove otherwise. Let’s see if they deliver at Newcastle, then we can perhaps start to be more positive.

Until some real evidence suggests that this team is something other than a bunch of losers with a superiority complex, I’m going to remain negative.
