In exactly 2 weeks, at the time of writing, we will be at half time in our season opener against Liverpool and it barely feels like we`ve had a preseason.

The European Championships saw a large majority of our players busy for most of the summer and because of that non of our best players (aside from Petr Cech) have even kicked a ball in a friendly, with less than 14 days to go that is a worry.

We`re also short on numbers, we have one fully fit striker and one fully fit (assuming Gabriel is fit) central defender and once again it feels as though Arsene Wenger is dithering in the transfer market.

This weekend the boss spoke about the transfer window and in all honest it sounds like he has just cut and pasted it from any of the previous 5 transfer windows you care to choose.

He said

“I buy players that I feel can strengthen our team. Today you have to be very strong inside the club when you are responsible, not just to buy [for the sake of buying]. There`s always a wave of opinions. I must say people are better informed today – they know all the players. They tell you always that you should buy but when you ask them who to buy, they become much shorter.”

“If you look at the market in Europe, there`s a lot of money available but not many players who really strengthen the teams. If you look at the teams that spend the most money in Europe, they`re not necessarily the teams that won the championships. The global investment of the clubs around us didn`t stop Leicester winning the championship.”

There is a difference between buying for the sake of buying and buying because you literally have no proper striker in training at this current time.

If Wenger fails to act in the next 14 days I wouldn`t like to be him if we lose the opening game of the season.
