With most eyes on potential departures this January, Arsenal have tonight signed young Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.

The 20 year old centre half comes in from PAS Giannina and having broken into their first team last season, he has 16 Greek Super League appearances under his belt.

The youngster is 6ft 4in and has two caps for the Greek Under 21s and Sky Sports are reporting that they understand a fee of around £1.8million has been paid to bring him on board.

They also expect him to make a quick loan out to more speedily gain experience before he makes the step up to our first team and they say that German side Werder Bremen are in advanced talks but nothing has been formally confirmed.

Arsene Wenger explained.

‘He’s not ready to play for us. We’ll give him out on loan.’
