According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal, becoming less likely to sign Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe, who favours Real Madrid anyway, have earmarked Manchester United’s Anthony Martial as a fallback plan?

‘Arsenal insiders say Wenger has become obsessed by the idea of signing 18-year-old Mbappe, believing he could have the same impact as Thierry Henry,’ reports the Mail.

Given the fact he’ll (Mbappe) cost a world record fee that could, if not would, smash the £100m barrier, this in one Frenchman that ISN’T joining the Gunners this summer.

Could Martial in a £40m deal? Well, given the fact Wenger and Jose Mourinho quite literally hate each other – yes, hate is a strong word but I think it fair to say this is quite fitting when it comes to the pair, who clearly hold a strong sense of loathing towards each other – you wouldn’t think so.

Wenger doesn’t want to deal with Mourinho, Mourinho doesn’t want to deal with Wenger.

So, in a way to combat this animosity between the old foes, the Mail went on to say the offer made to Man United would come with Arsenal asking ‘for negotiations to be conducted above managerial level’ as the feeling is those in the boardroom wouldn’t allow their personal feelings to get in the way.

Clearly Arsenal need to move on from Mbappe but at some £40m, assuming Man United would agree to a deal, shouldn’t the Gunners be setting targets a little higher than Martial, who hasn’t exactly lived up to the hype that took him to Old Trafford in the first place.
