England international Chris Smalling was linked with Arsenal when at Fulham, the Manchester United defender is being linked again.

Reports in the Mirror are saying Jose Mourinho’s public criticism of Smalling and teammate Luke Shaw after they missed the Premier League meeting with Swansea has seen a falling out with both ready to leave Old Trafford.

Smalling was, as said, wanted by Arsene Wenger in 2010 but he decided to join Man United with these reports saying the Arsenal boss will renew his previous interest should he become available.

But you have to question if he is needed?

Perhaps easy claims to make with other claims, also in the Mirror, linking Alexis Sanchez with an exit once more.

As with the reports of Man United interest in Mesut Ozil it has been claimed the ‘contract stand off’ between the club and Sanchez over the weekly wage the Chilean international will get could lead to him leaving Arsenal.

If he did then Manchester City will be among those ready to make a £50m approach for him with Juventus’ interest, first claimed in the summer, also being revived.

The risk of losing Sanchez on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 is there but an exit, certainly mid-season, is highly unlikely! A move to Man City would also seem strange as he wasn’t always a regular under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona with the relationship they had at the Nou Camp said to be ‘rocky’ at times.

Whatever is happening with Sanchez offloading him to a Premier League title rival can’t be an option can it?
