Arsenal are represented in the latest Premier League team of the week that has been selected by BBC pundit Garth Crooks.

Actually Garth is now down as a ‘Football Analyst’ these days, a posh term for a pundit then!

The performance by Laurent Koscielny in the two one victory over Southampton at the weekend at the Emirates Stadium was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other, in the opinion of the former Spurs striker anyway, most impressive performers in the topflight over the latest weekend.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Crooks, we’ll also not argue with it, selected Koscielny as part of his team but explaining his choice he told the BBC.

‘When I saw Laurent Koscielny sitting in the stands recovering from his European Championship exploits when his team-mates were in desperate need of defenders against Liverpool, it made me question his commitment to Arsenal’s cause. This is a player with enormous qualities and they were perfectly demonstrated against Southampton. You don’t often see a defender execute an overhead kick as well as Koscielny did to equalise against Southampton. If he is going to have a day off in future he should try to make sure it’s not a matchday.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Koscielny for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the victory.

Full Team:

Steve Mandanda (Crystal Palace), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur), Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal), John Stones (Manchester City), Jose Holebas (Watford), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City), Song Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur), Sadio Mane (Liverpool), Diego Costa (Chelsea), Roberto Firmino (Liverpool).
