Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny could become another of the Premier League footballers approached by Marseille, now that the club are backed by an American billionaire who is looking to restore them to past glories.

Having been sent off in the final Premier League game against Everton, suspension forced Koscielny to miss the FA Cup final win over Chelsea last month but he’s under contract until 2020, this deal was only extended last November.

Arsene Wenger isn’t looking to sell Koscielny, whilst Marseille’s interest isn’t actually known. However, should the club he supports make an approach the Arsenal’s captain isn’t ruling out a switch to the Stade Veledrome.

He told Telefoot, via the Daily Mirror: ‘I have a contract with Arsenal, I even signed an extension last November until 2020. I feel very good over there. I have always said that I was a Marseille fan when I was younger. When a mythical club like Marseille contact you, it is good. But will I sign for them? I have no idea at all.’

Well settled in North London, making almost 100 appearances for Arsenal since his arrival, Koscielny, 31, would be a huge loss to the Gunners’ defence should Marseille firm up a rumoured interest.

If they did the ‘mythical club’ appear to appeal, but the price would have to be right.
