Somewhat buried in the yesterdays football was the draw for the 4th round of the Carling Cup which took place midday yesterday.

The kids who had performed so well against Sheffield United in the week get another home tie, this time against premier league opposition in the shape of Steve Bruce’s Wigan Athletic.

Despite yesterdays defeat at the Emirates for the first team the youngsters will be encouraged by home advantage. It is also an opportunity for the club to invest in the supporters of the future by pricing tickets at a level that will draw those who have little chance to see the team in action.

Though Wigan will prove tougher opponents than the Blades they provide just the sort of testing ground that the youngsters need to continue their development.

The full draw is:

Sunderland v Blackburn Rovers
Arsenal v Wigan Athletic
Chelsea v Burnley
Swansea City v Watford
Manchester United v Queens Park Rangers
Stoke City v Rotherham United
Brighton & Hove Albion or Derby County v Leeds United
Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool

The ties are to be played in the week beginning the 10th November.
