With Carl Jenkinson making his return from a serious nine months long injury in last night’s League Cup clash against Reading at the Emirates Stadium, he was obviously delighted to get the 90 minutes under his belt with no ill effects, and after manager Arsene Wenger was tasked with his post game press interviews, Jenkinson also featured.

Speaking to the Official Site after making his first appearance for Arsenal in 898 days (West Ham loan spell factors in) the player explained he couldn’t be happier with how things went for him on the evening after his long journey back to fitness.

‘It felt brilliant. It`s been a long time coming. Of course, I was on loan for a couple of years and that was really good for me. But coming back and having nine months out injured has been very tough. So days and nights like tonight make it all worthwhile.’

Jenkinson went on to say about the game.

‘It was tough. They were a decent team but I think over the 90 minutes we were the better team for sure. We played some really nice stuff at times but they came here and they had a really good go, to be fair to them. At times they left four up top against us back four, so they had a real good go. But it`s a good result for us and it`s good that we`re through to the next round.’

Hopefully the first appearance of many for the lad again now and we can see him live up to his earlier potential, especially given the game experience he got at West Ham.
