Is Arsene Setting Us Up For Good?

Some of you may wonder what the funk I mean by that title. I’ll explain… I mean ‘for good’ in terms of time – for all eternity, or at least, for the next lord-only-knows how many years.

Think about this new generation that is coming through. They look good, don’t they. In fact they look better than that, no? All gooners must be salivating at what is surely Arsene’s most audacious project yet, that of building a whole team of unknowns, bringing them through the youth and reserves, and having them all lauded as superstars and world class a few years down the line.

So think about this: If this team becomes as good as it looks like it bloody well could be, that would surely mean that our purchases in terms of players could be kept at a minimum. Now i know this may spoil our fun in terms of ‘who will we buy this summer/in january’, and make lazy tabloid hacks have to write something based in reality for a change, as we all like to speculate don’t we, but it would mean that we’d be putting money aside, and aside, and aside, keep building up the coffers.

As we have heard the board recently state, we do not need to sell out the emirates or qualify for the champions league to be able to repay the loans we have for the stadium, so judging by the quality of the team coming through right now, and the quality of football it looks like they are capable of producing, judging by the result and performance at reading last sunday, it looks likely that we WILL continue to be challenging for the title, and thus qualifying for the CL. And given the way they play, if the young team can continue to do this, there’ll be no shortage fo gooners clambering for a ticket to get into the grove to watch the arse. Therefore, the club finances will continue to be kept at a very healthy state indeed.

Now, if this team develops as arsene hopes and believes it can, and we’ll not be needing to fund player purchases, or at least keep them to a very minimum, then theoretically that money we’ll not be spending will be accumulating, and hopefully in the form of a sizeable war chest, ready to be wheeled out when needed.

As will happen one day, Arsene will sadly step down, and who’s to say that the man who will follow him will have the same knowledge and nous to be able to bring in unheard-of gems and polish them into something incredible in front of our eyes? Arsene is truly in a league of his own when it comes to this. Or even if Arsene’s eventual successor IS of the same mould, with the same talent spotting capabilities as the great man himself, what if a player emerges elsewhere who rapidly develops into one of the top players in the world? we should be in a very healthy state to spend big on such a player, if needs be.

My point is that with the advent of this squad Arsene is assembling, and the extra money that the grove will generate for the team, could see Arsenal turn from being one of england’s best teams, into a true giant on the world stage, one that would no longer be looked at by real or barca, who would think that they can potentially destabilise this london club and cream off their best players, as we would be on an equally strong, possibly stronger financial footing than the both of them. With a great team that have grown together, fought together, and won together, and of course, stayed together.

That’s a best-case scenario. But should it come to pass, then we’d be in an exceedingly good position to maintain a great team by purchasing the few players that could make the arsenal team, and play to their style, and not have to worry about being outmuscled in the transfer market.

The russian oil baron across town wants to make them self sufficient. Arsene may be taking us to a similar level of potential spending power by the time it’s needed, and with a club that IS self sufficient already, and which, by that time as big spending may be called for, will remain so.
