An excellent night in the Champions League was dampened somewhat by another spate of injuries in what is becoming a list almost as long as my son`s letter to Santa.

After losing Welbeck, Wilshere & Szczesny in the game against Man Utd on Saturday, Mikel Arteta and Yaya Sanogo now face a spell on the sidelines, with the former looking at a lengthy lay-off.

Arsene Wenger confirmed the two injuries as calf and hamstring respectively in his post match press conference.

“The injury situation is a problem because we have many games and we lost two players tonight. The first one is Mikel Arteta who has another calf problem and that looks quite serious. We also lost Yaya Sanogo to a hamstring problem.”

The Arsenal manager also confirmed Wilshere will see a specialist today after a particularly nasty tackle rolled his ankle last Saturday.

“Wilshere sees a specialist tomorrow. We`ll know more tomorrow night.”

“I don’t know [If Jack will need an operation], the specialist will decide that.”
