Justin Hoyte has followed Jens Lehmann and signed a new deal with Arsenal.

This season has been a great one for Hoyte. He spent last season on loan at Sunderland as they were relegated from the Premiership.

There was some major doubt over his future at the start of the season with both Lauren and Manu Eboue ahead of him in the pecking order. At the same time fellow young right-back Kerrea Gilbert hot on his heals in terms of progress.

The departure of Lauren to Portsmouth and likely departure of Gilbert to Cardiff in the summer means that Hoyte is now Arsenal second choice right back.

At only 22 he has time on his side and I wouldn’t bet against the youngster becoming Arsenal’s first choice at right-back next season, espically if he continues his excellent progress.

Speaking to Arsenal.com Hoyte said: “Yes I have signed a new contract which is good for me and hopefully good for the Club.

“Now I have to keep working hard, even harder than this year. I have to keep pushing myself.

“I’ve played a lot of games which has been really, really good for me. I’m just loving playing, obviously being an Arsenal supporter too it’s great.

‘Hopefully now I’ve played a lot of games and I can push on now and play as many games, get games under my belt and win trophies with the Club.’

I for one am delighted that Hoyte has signed on. If he can continue to progress in the mannor he has in the last 2 seasons then it’ll not be long till the Neville sister is looking over his shoulder.
