Yesterday was the day of the AGM and with it brought a grilling for the Arsenal board over the rumours & concerns of a possible takeover, Chelsea style, of Arsenal Football Club.

I guess to a club like Chelsea who were in financial dire-straights the sight of Roman Abramovitch’s rubles were like an oasis in the Sahara, but to a self suffcient club like Arsenal, we have no need for such investors.

Indeed the board confirmed that we could still remain operational and have the fiscal matter to pay off the debts with an average crowd of 32,000, but lets face it, it’ll never drop that low.

Most Arsenal fans are united in the fact that we would not, strike that, DO NOT want our club to be sold to any Russian, or American for that matter, billionaires. Even though we have our gripes with the board and grow increasingly frustrated with decisions that have been made without the fans in mind, we know that everything is being done with the club in mind.

The guys on the board are Arsenal men, and they would never do anything to harm the club. They know Arsene Wenger and what he is capable of and leave him to the business of winning trophies, could we really risk some buffoon taking over and deciding he knows whats best? I don’t think so.

Peter Hill-Wood did his best to lay everyone’s mind at ease at the AGM yesterday with a brief but a very ‘matter-of-fact’ statment.

‘We made a statement to Ofex when there were recent rumours of a takeover,’ said Hill-Wood. ‘We assured the Stock Exchange that we had not had an approach, we were not seeking an approach and we had absolutely no intention of selling to a foreign buyer.’
