Arsenal chairman, Peter Hill-Wood, has voiced his concerns of the possible departure of the French striker.

Thierry Henry has long been coverted by most clubs in world football, but there is now a real possibility that Henry may leave, with Barcelona being the club linked to him most.

Hill-Wood, like most Arsenal fans feel that losing Henry would be disasterous for the future of Arsenal football club.

‘At the back of my mind, there is a fear he will decide to go,’ Hill-Wood told the Daily Star.

‘I have no evidence other than maybe I have been here too many times before with players and become cynical.

‘I’m realistic enough to know that if he wanted to go, he would and there is nothing we could do about it.

‘It would be a shattering blow to lose him. We are as keen as mustard to keep him – he knows we are ready to talk about a new contract and will stretch every muscle to keep him.’

‘The last thing Arsenal need is to lose a player like him, with the new stadium opening for the start of next season,’ added Hill-Wood.

‘Yet, there is always a but, because this is football and players believe there is one more move or their career can be better elsewhere.

‘I do hope that when he makes his decision, he remembers what Arsene Wenger has done for him.

‘Henry was nothing when he came to Arsenal and Arsene has turned him into the world star he is today.

‘I do hope he takes that into consideration and puts loyalty and thanks amongst his priorities when the time comes.

‘The board have heard nothing and all I know is what I read and see. I presume the manager will be told first and then let us know.

‘He knows how we feel and that we want him and yet his future is up to him.’
