The 3rd round FA Cup tie between Liverpool & Arsenal saw a campaign that has been going on for the best part of 18 years take a new stance.

Liverpool fans defied club officials and held up cards that spelled out ‘The Truth’ and sang ‘Justice for the 96’ for the first 6 minutes of the game.

Scousers have been campaigning for years for the truth to be heard after the Hillsbrough disaster saw The Sun printing outrageous lies with regards to the behavior of Liverpool supporters towards the dead and the dying on the pitch on that tragic day.

The Liverpools fans stood, held up the cards and sang for the full 6 minutes, even though the club had issued a statement allowing them to stage their protest before the game but not during.
I don’t think even the most jobsworth of stewards would have denied the fans the opportunity to speak out on this subject.

After Arsenal had knocked the holders out of the competition, the Arsenal manager and club captain, rightly, praised the Liverpool fans for their support.

Wenger said: ‘You can only admire the Liverpool fans. They kicked every ball for the team for the whole 90 minutes and were just fabulous. The club has a great support here.’

And Thierry Henry echoed his gaffer’s sentiments. ‘I have such respect for this ground and these supporters. What a place this is to play football.’

We here at Vital Arsenal would like to wish the Liverpool fans all the best in their campaign for ‘The Truth’
