Arsenal captain Thierry Henry has revealed that he is nowhere near being match fit, and it was noticable.

Henry played his first competitive match for Arsenal since that fateful night in the Champions League final, and against Aston Villa it showed.

He had a number of opportunities but blazed them all over the bar, he engery levels were also clearly lacking as the usual pace and stamina were nowhere to be seen.

However, Henry believes his pre-seaon will come in the first few games of the Premiership campaign.

‘I am not even at 60 percent, no way near,’ Henry said in The Sun. ‘While Freddie Ljungberg tried ever so hard, and you have to give him credit for that, he is not fit either.

‘Fitness-wise, I need another month. Certainly four or five games.

‘Obviously players who were at the World Cup are in a similar position. But, this was only my second game while it was Freddie’s first.

‘Our preparation games are league matches rather than pre-season friendlies.’

Considering these facts, it’s more than likely Henry will take to the pitch to face Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday. Not because he is needed as the tie is almost certainly dead, but just as an exercise in fitness.
