Thierry Henry praised his new strike partner, Emmanuel Adebayor, for doing all the hard work.

Since his arrival, Adebayor has been doing all the ‘graft’ to get into the box and plays as a more conventional striker. Henry believe’s coupled with that fact that his work is benefitting the teams as a whole, Manu’s style also helps him to play his own game.

‘Manu is the type of striker who is really nice to play with because he shows the ball well and he does the bad [hard] work,’

‘That is always a plus for me because then I am more free up front, and you can see that in the weeks I have been playing with him – I am more on the ball and also going on the side, trying to set up people to score.

‘He gives us a plus because usually we have players like Dennis [Bergkamp] and Robin van Persie who try to get the ball behind, not really trying to shield the ball and wait for the team to come.

‘Manu has that, so finally we have the striker who we have been looking for that when you kick the ball forwards, he will be there to shield it.’

Adebayor has scored 3 goals in 6 appearences since he started life at Arseanl. Plenty of other great foreign players have taken longer to get off the mark.

  • No matter who you put on against Pompey you are going to very very hard to *****. Right behind you though against Juventus.

  • he’s scored in half the goals he’s played in. not many other foreign strikers have been able to do that, look at Forlan!! Adebayor is the type of player we have been missing since Smithy. i know youwill say what about Kanu but Kanu was a creative player rather than a frontman. this makes an interesting selection choice of who to play against pompey between Manu and RVP.

  • Let’s just give this a few more months to settle in before we jump to all sorts of wrong conclusions. Just wait til he’s not playing every week.
