I make no secret of my dislike of Frank Lampard, indeed we often take the mikey on Vital Arsenal about his pie eating antics, but tonight, I have to salute him.

It’s always sad when any member of your family dies, but I can only imagine (though I really wouldn’t want to) the pain that the death of your mother brings.

For Frank Lampard, not only take to the pitch, but have the balls to step up and knock home a penalty, is testament to the guy’s mental strength.

It must have been in his mind, as he stood infront of a 38,000 strong crowd that he had to score the penalty in memory of his mum, and that will have brought more pressure than any amount of praying football fans.

So tonight I put all rivalries aside and take my hat off to Frank Lampard, and may your mum rest in peace.
