Martin O’Neil claims Arsene Wenger ‘made a slip’ when Wenger responded to the question if he was interested in Gareth Barry with the simple statement ‘There is always interest.’

The Villa manager feels that Wenger has spoken out of turn (despite the Arsenal gaffer not actually naming any names) and says it’s a bit out of character.

O’neil said, ‘I`ve heard nothing from Arsene Wenger himself, so it is strange. I read his comments and I just thought they were strange.’

‘Bizarre, really.’

‘I don`t know whether you can say there isn`t any honour among managers any more. What I would say is that Arsene Wenger doesn`t usually come out with comments like that.’

‘I accept he has made a bit of a slip, shall we say. I`m sure I will slip up myself in that way, one day. There are plenty of slips you can make as a manager, you know, like not winning games for a start.`

Forgetting that Wenger never actually said anything about Gareth Barry (Just O’Neil falling for the media bullshit) the Villa manager seems to be forgetting that earlier in the summer he himself admitted there had been interest expressed by Arsenal, more accurately Pat Rice, and that Martin let that information ‘slip’.

So this begs the question, has Gareth Barry driven the Irishman round the bend?
