Arsene Wenger revealed that the starting line up from last nights crushing 8-1 defeat of Schwadorf will be the team to face Dinamo Zagreb in the 3rd round Champions League qualifier next week.

A starting eleven of Manuel Almunia, Manu Eboue, Justin Hoyte, Kolo Toure, Johan Djourou, Cesc Fabregas, Jose Reyes, Mathieu Flamini, Gilberto, Manu Adebayor & Robin van Persie each played the first 45 minutes in Austria and steered the team to a 4-0 halftime lead without breaking sweat.

Wenger believes, barring injuries, this is the eleven who will start the important first leg tie.

‘The team who played tonight will probably be the team we use for the Champions League qualifiers because Henry and Lehmann won’t be back in time.’

Wenger also revealed that Walcott should be fit for the start of the season, but he’s not sure about the Champions League clash.

‘Theo should be okay in two more weeks’ time, although I don’t know if he’ll be ready for the European tie.’

  • I hope wenger is right aboutr the line up because this is not the same as swardshof but then the premeirship

  • Good to see Djourou ahead of cygan if that is indeed the team. I was fearful that wenger would start with cygan but I truly believe come the end of next season everyone will be raving about djourou as one of the best defenders in the premiership. He could even end up ahead of senderos after having a 3 month head start on him.

  • I hope Theo can get over it quickly. Apart from the fact that I am desperate to see him play, we could do with another option for now while players recover from the WC.

  • good to see you talking alot more positive A.G.
I think we are strong enough to finish zagreb off though i hear they have a very experienced midfield and defence.

  • DZ – not a pretty club to play against, especially when they’ll have greater match fitness. No place for wimmin folk or babies, so absence of Jens Leh-about and The Woman Formerly Known As T.Henry is a sensible precaution.

  • DINAMO ZAGREB is not so weak team as you think, modern football sometimes is very strange and unexpectable…
we have some very good players and many players come from dinamo zagreb in the past( Mark Viduka,Davor Suker(Real Madrid, Arsenal…), Boban(Milan), Mario Stanic, Biscan(Liverpool), Robert Prosinecki(Barcelona), Dario Simic(Milan), Bosko Balaban, Silvio Maric(Newcastle),Stimac (West ham), Bilic(Everton,West ham,….ect.
and now Luka Modric, Da Silva, Vugrinec, Jens Nowotny, Etto for some of these players you will be heard in the future, for sure in match beetwen England vs Croatia this year (da Silva and Modric)
    good luck in zagreb…….

  • I don’t think anyone doubts that Zagreb pose a threat, but if we’re realistic and have any ambition, we should be hoping to win convincingly.
