Olivier Giroud, despite only recently signing a contract extension to keep him at Arsenal, has been linked with a return to France at Marseille, but these rumours have been played down.

Giroud’s agent, Michael Manuello, has denied any contact with Marseille, when quoted by ClubCall. However, he has suggested future ‘uncertainty on his role’ could see his position in north London reviewed in the summer.

Manuello said: ‘There has not been any contact between Marseille and us. Now, as there is uncertainty about what Arsenal are going to do and if there is uncertainty on his role, we will reflect on this in the summer.’

Arsene Wenger recently said Giroud wouldn’t be leaving Arsenal anytime soon with Manuello going on to say the Frenchman’s future isn’t linked with that of his countryman, but the suggestion is that could be the case, certainly if Wenger doesn’t give the forward more starting opportunities should he remain as Gunners boss.

‘His future is not linked with the coach`s. It is linked with what Arsenal are going to do and if there is a change in Arsenal`s direction regarding the involvement of Olivier in the project.’

If Giroud didn’t want to be at Arsenal he wouldn’t have signed a new deal, Manuello basically pointed to as much, finishing by saying the French international is aiming to achieve ‘great things’ with the Gunners.

‘Olivier wants to help his team qualify for the Champions League. When we know exactly what Arsene Wenger is doing, we will ask ourselves questions. We will think about what is possible and what is not possible. Our desire is be at Arsenal long term. Olivier has been there for five years. The aim for Olivier is still to go as far as possible in this adventure with Arsenal to do great things there.’
