Goalscorer and point saver Olivier Giroud has been giving his thoughts on the draw with Manchester United, and he was joined in front of the media by Francis Coquelin.

Having come off the bench to score the all important equaliser at Old Trafford for Arsenal, Giroud was obviously interviewed at the full time whistle and he told the Official Site that he knew it was alwaqys important to ‘bring something’ to a match when he comes off the bench, as he knows it’s the best way of working his way back into the starting eleven.

‘It’s nice to score when you come off the bench. We always try to bring something when we come on in a game. So it was the fact today. Chambo crossed the ball and I knew he was going to cross to the second post, so I tried to stay there. I come as quick as I can to smash the ball and yeah, lucky me. It`s nice for the team, it`s a good point because we conceded and had tough chances to score.’

Asked about instructions from Arsene Wenger when he came on.

‘Just to give the maximum. Try to bring your small cog to the big machine. Defend from set-pieces and try to run and make my teammates play. I try to give solutions to my teammates because at the end of the game we were a bit tired, so just to try to bring something different, in the air especially as well. We are very happy with this draw and this point and now we want to focus on the Champions League game on Wednesday.’

Despite it being a difficult game with Arsenal clearly not at their best, Giroud pointed out the boost it would be in terms of not losing the game, as not being at your best but still taking at least a point could be crucial come the end of the season.

‘It`s a good momentum. Even if we wanted to win today, the scenario of the game was a bit hard for us. We conceded the first goal so it`s nice to show a strong character and to come back. We didn`t lose so let`s carry on this good run. But we need to take the three points at home now, to make this point better.’

As for Coquelin, in his own post game interview he praised the strength in depth of the squad and the substitutes on the day for the impact they had when they came on the pitch.

‘The first goal in the second half made it quite hard for us but the response from the team was very good. The players who came on were superb. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on at right back and gave a great ball to Olivier Giroud who was also a substitute, and he scored a massive goal. It showed the whole team is really focused on what we are doing.’

As for Giroud’s leveller, he went on to say.

‘He`s not been starting a lot recently but there`s this theory that every time he comes on he manages to score. He did that again and his headers are unbelievable. It`s probably the only chance he had and he put it away. He showed how good he is. It`s a massive relief because it was a tough game. We were 1-0 down so to come back and get a point at Old Trafford is a great result for us.’

He ended by saying.

‘We watched a video before the game and we knew they would press. We expected it and in the first half we managed to stop them mostly, even though they had a couple of chances, but in the second half the goal hit us hard. Still, we had the resources to get back in the game and get a point. We`ve shown this with the depth of our squad. Every time someone comes on, it puts quality in the team. Alex came on at right back which isn`t his favoured position but he did extremely well. We`ve also seen Olivier`s quality as well because he only needed one touch of the ball and it went in. It just shows how good the squad is and how tough we are mentally.’
