Arsenal`s longest serving player, Freddie Ljungberg has been rewarded for his efforts for club and country by being named Swedish football of the year.

Ljungberg played a crucial role in Arsenal`s Champions League run last season. Both his experience and his work rate, along with a winning goal against Ajax in the group stages played a major part in the run.

Ljungberg was also a key figure in Sweden`s world cup campaign. He only managed one goal (against Paraguay in the group stages) but it was enough to see Sweden into the second round.

Ljungberg spoke of his pride at winning the prize: ‘I am proud and humble to get this award.

‘If you look at the football year 2006, it was very eventful. If I should try to sum it up, the Champions League final left some deep marks. That felt heavy. But for me, the World Cup was the biggest event of the year.”

Ljungberg also won the Swedish Golden Ball back in 2002 after his exploits in the world cup and playing a major role in Arsenal`s League and Cup double.

Well done Freddie, now lets have some goals from you please!
