Lucas Perez recently spoke about his disappointment at not playing as much of a prominent role for Arsenal as he anticipated when he signed from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer.

Ahead of the match at Sunderland this lunchtime, which kicks-off inside the next hour, Arsene Wenger confirmed his ankle injury against Reading in the League Cup win on Wednesday will keep him out for up to two-months.

Wenger has said the challenge on the Spaniard, by Reading’s Danzell Gravenberch, was a ‘stupid one.’

‘He’s absolutely gutted because it’s an injury coming from nowhere and a stupid one. It was a kick, a deliberate kick.’

Perez will now miss between six to eight-weeks worth of action.

Obviously the £17m will sit out the match at the Stadium of Light for starters with the derby against Tottenham also missed a long with the match against Manchester United and the key Champions League meeting with Paris Saint Germain.
