First Seats Go Into Emirates

Today was a historic day in the history of Arsenal Football Club as the very first seats were fitted at the spanking new Emirates stadium.

Keith Edelman and Abou Diaby were there to witness this event, and both had much to say.

Edelman went first.

‘It’s a very important day, a very exciting day.

‘The first seat being put into the stadium is a very exciting moment for us.

‘It’s a great moment, the stadium is looking absolutely fantastic. We’re on schedule for it to be finished in time for next year’s season so I think everything is going very well for us.

‘I think, if you look around the stadium, it’s still got the same feel as Highbury, the very tight feel, and every seat has a great view. We’ve not gone up terribly high so the views from the upper tier and very back of the upper tier are very, very good.

‘I think there are two major reasons [for the change]. We have so many fans who write in and say they can’t get a seat to see their team play so it will help us get more fans in.

‘And it’s financially very important because it increases our revenue, which enables us to put more money into team development and invest in the team for future success.

‘It’s going extremely well, very well indeed. We’ve sold all 150 executive boxes and, out of 6,700 executive seats, we’ve already sold 6,200.

‘There’s only 500 left to sell and it’s the only place where people can get a seat who aren’t very high up on the waiting list.’

Diaby was equally thrilled at his first visit and also at the prospect of getting out on the new pitch.

‘It’s great to be at the stadium today and be the person who actually fixes the first seat at this fantastic stadium. It is exciting to think that in a few months time one of our supporters will be sitting here watching the team play. It’s the first time I’ve been to Emirates Stadium and it is amazing – I really can’t wait to play here next season.’

The new place is going to be at the height of European football stadia, something to be proud of, but more importantly, somewhere to begin a new era, and somewhere to make a new history.
