Falkirk manager John Hughes has confirmed his side are in talks with the mighty Gunners with a view to extending Anthony Stokes loan deal untill the end of the season.

Stokes has been in fine form after joining the Bairns on loan, indeed he, at the time of writing, is the leading Scottish Premier League goal scorer.

‘We’re in discussions with Arsenal as we speak as we want to get this sorted out before the weekend,’ Hughes told the Daily Record.

‘The vultures are starting to circle around Anthony and that’s only to be expected because of the way the lad has been playing.’

‘But he is happy at Falkirk and we are happy to have him. Hopefully in the next couple of days we’ll have an agreement with Arsenal for him to stay with us until the end of the season.’

‘If they say no because they want him back in London then that’s where he will go. But if they are happy to let him go out on loan until the end of the season we would prefer for him to stay with us.’

Stokes was on target again mid-week as his side eliminated Celtic from the Scottish League Cup.

  • I hope he does stay there for the duration of the season, it’s been nice to see the guy come on leaps and bounds, and surely better he gets first team experience than reserve league matches every other week???

  • he is playing just brilliantly up there in thehighlands… hopefully you will let him continue with this… no point in pulling him back to sit on the sidelines or play for th ereserves… he is getting great experiance and is top scorer… surely a great assett for you when he does return one day………………

  • Well, he scored again today but Falkirk lost 4-2 to Motherwell and he was sent off after being booked twice in two minutes. Still be interesting to see what happens in January, though.
