Down To The Wire

Ok, so it’s not the climax to the ‘Final Salute’ all us Gooners were looking forward to, but it’s exciting nethertheless.

Arsenal and Tottenham will battle it out on the final day of the season for the last remaining Champions League place, fair enough, not against each other, but both teams have one thing in mind……….Champions League football.

Arsenal beat Man City 3-1 at the City of Manchester Syadium tonight to leave them just one point behind their North London neighbours with one game to go.

The Gunners took the lead with Freddie Ljungberg scoring, what was amazingly his first league goal this season in the 30th minute, after great work from Henry set up the Swede to finish with his left foot.

City equalised quickly with Sommiel netting after a mix up between Freddie and Ashley Cole lead to a corner which was poorly defended shortly before half time.

Arsenal looked a different team second half with subs, Fabregas and Reyes making all the difference.

Cesc took the game to Man City as soon as he he set foot on the pitch setting up move after move.

A Reyes double gave Arsenal the 3 points after an excellent cut back from Eboue gave Jose the chance to smash it home, James got a hand on it and was unlucky but the goal was deserved all the same.

The nail in the coffin came when Henry broke on the left and found Reyes in acres 18 yards out, and the little Spaniard despatched it with aplom.

The three points in the bag, Arsenal must now hope that West Ham take at least a point and that we beat Wigan in the final ever game to be hosted at Highbury.

It’s a big ask, but far from impossible.
