In a day when Robin van Persie was crowned the Barclays Player of the Month, it was announced that the Dutch forward would sign an improved contract in the next few days.

van Persie had an awful summer after spending two weeks in prison after being acccused of rape. Many peope thought his ordeal would break his spirit, but he has bounced back stronger than ever to become an integeral member of the first team.

Arsene Wenger has offered RVP a three year extension to his current deal, which will take him upto 2011.

?He has come on a lot this season, I feel he has matured. He is a young player with a lot of talent and that means he can always be tempted to use that talent in an individual way. But I feel he has developed well his team play. If he continues to do that he will be a big player.?

The Barclays Player of the Month was awarded to him after scoring goals against Sunderland, Wigan and Blackburn.
