Sao Paulo have completed the permanent signing of Denilson, following the Brazilian’s release from his Arsenal contract 12 months early. Denilson had originally left Sao Paulo for Arsenal in August 2006, but he rejoined on loan in the summer of 2011.

Having spent two years back on loan at his boyhood club, the ex Brazilian U-20s captain was released from his contract by mutual consent, allowing Soberano to complete their deal.

The Brazilian club say they fended off competition from Gremio, Cruzeiro and Santos for his signature. The 25 year old has signed a four and a half year contract and told the Esporte Globo website, ‘I have to repay the confidence of the board and the fans by playing well.

‘I received other offers and some were more financially attractive, too. But my love and identification with Sao Paulo made the difference in my decision.’
